About the Author

My dear fellow Earthlings,

For 50 years, like all of you, I have been wandering on Gaia ; my french name is Jean-Michel, but everyone calls me MJ.

I was born in the 70s in France in the city of Albi, and perhaps that is why, from my teenage years, I became fascinated with the history of the Cathars, the first (and only) vegetarian people in France.

Biography

Back then, my younger self still relished magret de canard, Toulouse sausage, Bayonne ham, and grilled salmon trout. These flavors I hold in my memory as childhood treasures, even though they now contradict my heartfelt and intellectual beliefs.

As I approached my 30s, an unexpected read would revolutionize my lifestyle : the Essene Gospel of Peace* (book 1) and a few other texts from the primordial tradition inexorably led me to the idea of vegetarianism. At that time, it was a very eccentric decision ; for in the dawn of the 2000s, we were far from the acceptance that plant-based diets enjoy today.

Hence, I confess, doubts linger ; and my Cartesian intellect still seeks solid proof.

The rise of the internet then plunged me into a whirlwind of information from which I had to learn to unravel the multitude of (apparent) contradictions that characterize the universe of scientific research.

I am not a doctor, indeed ; but my quest for truth and my curiosity about these topics propel me into an exploration of human physiology, nutrition, and the metabolic and cellular functioning of our incredible physical vessel.

This research would lead me on the path of emblematic figures such as Dr. Michael Greger, founder of the indispensable site nutritionfacts.org.

I also feed on scientific podcasts like Simon Hill's "The Proof" or "Zoe Research" with Jonathan Wolf ... I devour with passion the works of the Physician Committee and Dr. Neal Barnard, for which a French version now exists.

I marvel at the research of Drs. Dean Ornish, Caldwell Esselstyn, Thomas Colin Campbell, and so many others who have contributed to providing irrefutable evidence that a plant-based diet can halt and even reverse the life prognosis of major human metabolic diseases.

This accumulation of knowledge in functional medicine and nutrition strengthens my convictions day by day until I make the switch - in 2010 - to Veganism.

My years living in London and the United States opened up further horizons. Thanks to the strong action of many charismatic vegan activists such as Gary Yourofsky, Earthling Ed, or Joey Carbstrong, I fully embrace the ethical and moral cause of veganism.

Along the way, I also familiarize myself with countless ecological arguments : climate change, issues on water, the tragic sixth mass extinction ... all of which stem directly from the contents of our plates.

Now back in the land of the Blue-White-Red revolutions, I feel a growing impatience with the lethargy that paralyzes the hexagon, having only the ghost of a distant utopia of "Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity".

A utopia that we must now implement, certainly for Humans, but by extending it to all sentient non-human creatures with whom we share this planet.

It's high time to turn these fine ideas into tangible and concrete societal foundations. But to achieve this, there is so much activist work to be done to awaken consciousness!

As for me, I have decided to gather all my experience in this work entitled "101 very good reasons to Go Vegan" nurturing the wild dream of an entirely vegan world.

Help me materialize this benevolent revolution.
